| SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, is a resource partner of the Small Business Administration and was founded in 1964. This organization consists of both retired and active business owners and executives who volunteer their time to assist new entrepreneurs and current business owners by providing free and confidential counseling/mentoring. Initially 84 chapters were created throughout the country and from 1964 - 1966 more than 12,000 people were helped through quality counseling.
In August of 1969 SCORE activities were growing so rapidly that the SBA realized many small business needs could not be adequately met by available volunteers, so they created another organization known as ACE (Active Corps of Executives). SBA found that individuals still actively engaged in business were willing to donate their spare time to further help the cause.
This program was also extremely successful and, in May 1982, ACE and SCORE were merged as one to be known as, SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business. SCORE averages helping 300,000 individuals each year and offering/sponsoring over 5,000 workshops/seminars.

| Who is a SCORE Counselor?
A typical SCORE Counselor is an individual with experience as a business owner, executive or manager, both active or retired, realizing that living is not about how much wealth we can amass during our lifetime, but rather how much good we are able to do as we travel down the road of life. This individual understands the personal ssatisfaction of helping people help themselves.
A SCORE Counselor freely gives of himself, making available his business experience by offering counseling/mentoring to new entrepreneurs or those currently in business. He/She is able to share their business experiences with clients, thereby helping them to avoid the same mistakes/pitfalls, easing the transition from being employed to that of being self-employed.
